If they are a valued customer, then you may consider offering an instalment plan. However, if you decide to this, it is important to carefully monitor that the instalments are paid by the agreed due dates – so you can take immediate action if an instalment is missed.
Depending on the circumstances, it may also be worthwhile, to offer a discount to your customer. Even a relatively small discount may be enough to entice a customer to make an immediate payment.
If you feel uncomfortable negotiating directly with your customer you can choose to engage a professional mediator to act on your behalf.
